Product Application of Polished Rods
Polished rods are an integral component in the oil and gas industry, specifically used to connect sucker rods to the pump unit. These rods play a crucial role in the efficient extraction of fluids from the well.
Manufacturing Specification: API 11B
Material:
- Chemical Composition: The chemical composition of polished rods may vary depending on the manufacturer's specifications. They are typically made from AISI recommended series steels that meet the necessary chemical and mechanical property requirements.
a) Carbon Steel: AISI 1035-1050
b) Stainless Steel: AISI 304/316 or 431
c) Alloy Steel:
- AISI 4120-4140
- AISI 4315-4340
- AISI 4615-4625
- AISI 8620-8630
It is important to consult the manufacturer's material specifications to determine the specific chemical composition and limits of the polished rods. In some cases, polished rod liners may require a sprayed metal coating, as specified by the manufacturer.
Mechanical Properties for Finished Product:
The mechanical properties of polished rods are crucial for their reliability and durability throughout their application. The ultimate tensile strength requirements vary depending on the material used.
a) Carbon Steels: The ultimate tensile strength should be within the range of 90,000 psi to 160,000 psi (621 MPa to 1,103 MPa).
b) Alloy Steels: The ultimate tensile strength should be within the range of 95,000 psi to 160,000 psi (655 MPa to 1,103 MPa).
c) Stainless Steels: The minimum ultimate tensile strength should be 70,000 psi (482 MPa) for AISI 304/316, and 90,000 psi (620 MPa) for AISI 431.
These mechanical property requirements ensure that the polished rods can withstand the high loads and pressures experienced during oil and gas operations, maintaining their structural integrity.
Please note that specific manufacturing specifications and material requirements may vary across different manufacturers. It is essential to refer to the manufacturer's documentation and product specifications for accurate and detailed information regarding the application of polished rods.
